Area Development Zones

South Cotabato-Cotabato Province-Sultan Kudarat-Sarangani-General Santos City (SOCSKSARGEN)

The SOCSKSARGEN Area Development Zone is composed of the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City. It stretches a total land area of 429,674.45 hectares. The SOCSKSARGEN adopts a Dispersed Concentric Approach, a strategy that links General Santos City to the provincial trading centers to the agri-based communities and vice versa. It produces 99 percent of the country's asparagus for export, 40 percent of its pineapple, 29 percent of the total corn product, 10 percent of its coconuts and copra and 20 percent of the total rice production. Among the top products for export are fresh and canned pineapple products as well as fresh and canned tuna.

South Cotabato is the country's top producer of asparagus as well as pineapple and is the home of the country's top runners in the agri-based industry like Dole Philippines, T'boli Agro Development Inc., Marsman-Drysdale Agri Ventures and other agribusiness establishments.

Sultan Kudarat province, although it belongs to Region XII, has been incorporated to this Area Development Zone in order to contribute development to the area. The City of General Santos plays its role as the international gateway, agro-industrial service provider and trade center for its neighboring partners. Considered as the TUNA CITY, the city accounts for the second largest total daily fish landings in the country. contributed much to the emergence of SOCSKSARGEN as the leading producer of major commodities to major markets in USA, Japan, Europe and Asia.

Infrastructure support system in General Santos City is considered as one of the best in East ASEAN Growth Area, where the Expanded Makar Wharf can accommodate large capacity vessels and the General Santos City Fish Port Complex position as a major player in the world's tuna and fishing industry.
