Mindanao topo map updating project underway (2/5/2010)
DAVAO CITY---An updated, digitized map will soon replace the decades-old topographic map of Mindanao as key government agencies here with funding and technical support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have recently forged partnership to implement the project dubbed as Topographic Mapping for Peace and Development in Mindanao.

New Mindanao topo map. Undersecretary Virgilio Leyretana, Chairperson of the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCo) and Mr. Akira Goto, project formulation advisor of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), seal the partnership agreement on the implementation of the project on Topographic Mapping for Peace and Development in Mindanao held 15 January in Davao City. Led by the National Mapping Resource and Information Agency in partnership with MEDCo and JICA, the two-year project aims to update the old Mindanao map to guide development planning in the island-region. Witnessing the signing ceremony are members of the MEDCo secretariat.
